Togo: Towards the integration of ICT into the education system
Togo aims to accelerate the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education. On Thursday, December 7th, 2023, the Minister of Primary, Secondary, Technical, and Craft Education, Dodzi Kokoroko, announced the establishment of a Digitization Commission in this regard, following the development of an initial sectoral plan focused on the subject.
The body, composed of ten members, all holding responsibilities in the educational field, has the primary mission of defining a strategy for implementing the ICT policy. It will have three months to conduct an assessment and propose a roadmap.
Among its activities, the Commission will conduct a comprehensive study of existing infrastructures in educational institutions to identify equipment needs (computers, tablets, etc…) and connectivity requirements. It will work on designing and deploying an online learning platform, enabling students to access educational resources and attend distance learning courses.
Additionally, the Commission aims to establish partnerships with companies or associations specialized in digital technology and validate programs, assessments, or studies carried out in the field of digitization.
As a reminder, since 2014, Togo has emphasized digital transition in the educational environment. While a working environment has been deployed in several institutions, efforts have been initiated with various partners to strengthen the computer infrastructure. The Digital Learning Environment (ENT) is the result of a large-scale presidential initiative, jointly implemented by the three ministries.
Beyond providing computer equipment and a high-speed network, this project is primarily an educational platform designed to facilitate knowledge acquisition and collaboration within the same educational institution among different stakeholders by networking all actors within the education system (teachers, learners, administrative staff…).
