Gabon: Oligui N’guema received by his counterpart Paul Biya

The President of Gabon’s transition, Clotaire Oligui N’guema, began a tour of Central Africa after the establishment of the CTRI (Committee for Transition and Restoration of Institutions). Following meetings with several heads of state, he was in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on Wednesday, where he was received by his counterpart, Paul Biya.

During their discussion, the two presidents addressed various points, including the goals and roadmap of the CRTI, strengthening cooperation between both countries, and the lifting of sanctions against Gabon from sub-regional bodies such as CEMAC and the African Union.

They also discussed regional, continental, and international developments.

Following the meeting, Brice Oligui N’guema expressed his plea to Paul Biya for the lifting of sanctions imposed by the Economic Community of Central African States. «I have come to implore President Biya for clemency so that Gabon can return to CEEAC », he stated.

Paul Biya, on his part, reassured his counterpart of Cameroon’s support for the Transition process initiated since August 30th, according to a statement from the Gabonese presidency.

During his stay in Cameroon, Brigadier General Oligui N’guema met with the Gabonese community. This meeting provided an opportunity for the head of state to receive warm congratulations for the liberation coup carried out on August 30th.

The Gabonese diaspora in Cameroon expressed its willingness to participate in the country’s restoration process while highlighting the challenges they face.

If the governance of past years has hindered Gabon’s development, the people hope for a new direction under Oligui N’guema, with several challenges ahead that need to be addressed.
