Togo: Extension of the Blitta photovoltaic power plant
Over several years, Togo has been actively promoting renewable energy sources.
In line with the 28th Conference of the Parties on climate, Togo and the company AMEA Power, based in the United Arab Emirates, signed a financing agreement on December 2, 2023, for the extension of the Blitta photovoltaic power plant.
The agreement was signed by Mawunyo Mila Ami Aziablé, Minister Delegate to the President of the Republic in charge of Energy and Mines, and Hussain Jasim Al Nowais, CEO of AMEA Power.
With this signed agreement, in the presence of the Head of State Faure Gnassingbé, the Blitta power plant will be expanded by an additional capacity of 30 megawatts and an additional battery storage of at least 10MWh. This will increase its production capacity from 70 MW to 100 MW.
The increase in the production capacity of this plant aligns with the vision of the Head of State to diversify energy sources, promote sustainable development, and position Togo as a benchmark in this field on the continent.
Named after Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, the plant will be able to provide clean energy to 158.000 households, benefiting nearly 790.000 people.
It exemplifies Togo’s ambition to increase its rural electrification rate to 50% by 2025.
As a reminder, AMEA, a subsidiary of Al Nowais Investments (ANI), is the developer of this plant, granted exploitation rights for 25 years.
