Burkina Faso – Russia / Expansion of Diplomatic Horizons Between Burkina Faso and the Russian Federation: A Shared Vision for a Prosperous Future
December 3, 2023 marks a significant accomplishment in the history of relations between Burkina Faso and the Russian Federation. Her Excellency, Mrs. Olivia Ragnaghnèwendé ROUAMBA, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabè Abroad, held crucial talks with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Burkina Faso, His Excellency Mr. Alexey SALTYKOV.
This diplomatic meeting provided an opportunity to revisit the foundations of bilateral cooperation between the two nations and outline the contours of a renewed collaboration. At the heart of these discussions, an ambitious framework was sketched out, defining strategic projects aimed at injecting new dynamics into essential sectors such as the economy, energy, digital technology, education, higher education, intelligence, and security-defense.
These fruitful discussions enabled both parties to take stock of multiple ongoing projects, projecting an optimistic vision for the future of this cooperation. Ambassador Alexey SALTYKOV emphasized the importance of this step in strengthening ties between the two states, while expressing gratitude to Burkina Faso for its support within international organizations.
The announcement of the plan to open a Russian embassy in Burkina Faso added a tangible dimension to these discussions, hinting at a significant institutional rapprochement between the two nations. In a gesture of solidarity, Russia has also confirmed the forthcoming delivery of food aid, mainly consisting of wheat, demonstrating its commitment to the well-being of the Burkinabè people.
