Sahel / The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) prepares to become operational: A crucial step towards security and development in the region
The Malian capital was the scene of a strategic meeting, marking a major step towards the operationalization of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). Foreign Ministers and experts from Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali met to discuss the adoption of an institutional architecture that will determine the future of the region.
Under the leadership of the Prime Minister of Mali, Dr Choguel Kokalla MAIGA, the representatives of the three countries took the opportunity to take stock of the meeting in Bamako. The main objective of this meeting was to adopt an institutional architecture that will guide the operationalization process of the Alliance of Sahel States.
The institutional architecture proposed by the Ministers contains a central component focused on the fight against terrorism, thus underlining the common commitment to regional security. However, it is not limited to this crucial dimension; it also incorporates key aspects such as diplomacy, politics, economics and development. The ministers presented a detailed organizational chart for the establishment of the bodies of the Alliance of Sahel States.
Before finalizing their proposal, the ministers sought the advice and guidance of the Malian Prime Minister. They expressed their willingness to incorporate the recommendations of the Head of Government in the outcome document, stressing the importance of benefiting from his expertise to ensure the success of the project.
This meeting in Bamako represents a significant milestone in the implementation of the Alliance of Sahel States.
