Burkina Faso/ President Ibrahim TRAORE: Food self-sufficiency at the heart of its development strategy

As part of Burkina Faso’s development strategy focused on being self-sufficient in food production, President Ibrahim TRAORE recently stopped in the rice-growing plain of Koho Yabiro, situated in the Houndé Commune, on his way to the city of Sya, the capital of the Hauts-Bassins region.

The purpose of this visit had two main goals: to encourage and praise local farmers for their hard work and dedication to food production. The Koho Yabiro rice plain covers 54 hectares and looks promising, highlighting the country’s agricultural potential.

Through the presidential agricultural initiative, farmers in this region received improved seeds, fertilizers, and valuable technical support for the current farming season. These measures aim to boost agricultural productivity and ensure food security for the country.

It’s important to note that the Koho Yabiro plain has been developed since 2004, thanks to an agricultural cooperation program between Burkina Faso and the Republic of China. The farmers working on these lands expressed their gratitude to the President for his new policies benefiting rural communities and the support provided by the Presidential Initiative for the rainy season.

President Ibrahim TRAORE’s visit underscores the significance of food self-sufficiency in Burkina Faso’s development strategy. By strengthening agriculture and supporting local farmers, the country gets closer to its goal of ensuring food security for its people and boosting the national economy through agricultural production.
