Burkina-Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré receives messengers from his Malian counterpart Assimi Goïta

On the morning of Monday 11 September, President Ibrahim Traoré received messengers from the President of Mali’s transitional government, Assimi Goïta. Led by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, Lieutenant-Colonel Abdoulaye Maïga, the Malian delegation came to pass on to Captain Traoré a message from their boss concerning cooperation in the field of security.

«Mali and Burkina Faso share common challenges in the fields of security, socio-politics and economics, and this calls for ongoing dialogue» said the head of the Malian delegation at the end of the discussions.

«During the audience, the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, gave us wise advice on how to stay the course and meet the challenges facing us, for the benefit of our people» continued Mali’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation.

It should be noted that since President Ibrahim Traoré came to power, relations between Burkina Faso and Mali have strengthened, at the initiative of the two Heads of State to work in synergy to eradicate the terrorism facing their countries, and to meet the other common challenges they face.

On 6 September last year, the authorities of the two States signed a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (TAC) with a view to further strengthening the Ouagadougou-Bamako axis. The TAC was agreed at the summit of the Heads of State and Government of Burkina Faso and Mali. It will be held annually in one or other of the two countries.
