Burkina Faso: The government comes to the rescue of pupils in difficulty.

The Burkinabe government has put in place a national strategy for education in emergency situations. This strategy aims to ensure educational continuity for displaced families in the face of the situation that the education system in Burkina Faso has been experiencing recently due to insecurity. This has resulted in more than one million pupils being taken out of class and the closure of more than 5,700 schools.

This measure has made it possible to collect data and to implement actions aimed at taking care of displaced pupils to ensure their right to education.

The government’s strategy also includes distance learning through radio and television, the profiling of 100,000 children for their return to school and the optimal use of educational infrastructure.

The government is working to ensure the continued implementation of the national education strategy in emergency situations in the near future, in order to guarantee educational continuity for pupils in difficulty.

The Burkinabe government envisages a democratised and efficient education system open to the world, developing skills and expertise to meet the socio-economic development needs of Burkina Faso.

It should be noted that education in Burkina Faso has made significant progress despite the difficult conditions. The government has made the education of girls, especially those from farming families, its main concern. Communication and permanent consultation are at the heart of its action and it is its conviction that it is only at this price that it will succeed in meeting the many challenges of education.
