Burkina Faso: World Taekwondo ranking / Fayçal Sawadogo ranks 9th out of 700 athletes

Fayçal Sawadogo continues to proudly represent Burkina Faso, especially in the field of taekwondo. In a recent world ranking, the Burkinabè taekwondo athlete, who was crowned African champion in 2023, ranks among the top positions in his category among nearly 700 athletes. This ranking confirms his ascent in the world of taekwondo.

Fayçal Sawadogo has etched his name in the annals of the taekwondo world’s greats. He defeated Egypt’s Seif Eissa to claim the title of African Taekwondo Champion in 2023 and has now entered the top 10 globally.

While previously holding the 11th position in a previous ranking, the Burkinabe athlete has managed to rise to the 9th position in a recent ranking.

This is a remarkable achievement for the king of Africa in 2023 in the under-80 kg category. The taekwondo athlete now has his sights set on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he hopes to win Burkina Faso’s first Olympic medal in the discipline, following in the footsteps of Hugues Fabrice Zango, who secured Burkina Faso’s first medal, a bronze, at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.

It’s worth noting that Fayçal Sawadogo was hampered by an injury during the last Olympic Games. This time, he might just succeed.
