Burkina Faso’s parliament approves World Bank loan for urban mobility project

The Parliament of Burkina Faso has recently approved a significant loan agreement with the World Bank to fund the Secondary Cities Mobility and Urban Development Project (PMUDVS).

This ambitious initiative aims to address mobility challenges in the cities of Bobo-Dioulasso, Ouahigouya, and Kaya by integrating new road infrastructures and other facilities to improve transportation.

The urban development program, which is crucial for enhancing residents’ quality of life and boosting local economic growth, is supported by a substantial World Bank investment.

Roland Somda, the Minister of Transport, disclosed that the transportation component of the project is valued at approximately 119 billion FCFA.

This major investment will be used to modernize and expand transportation infrastructure in the targeted cities.

The upgrades in Bobo-Dioulasso, Ouahigouya, and Kaya are expected to facilitate easier movement for citizens, attract investments, and stimulate the local economy.

Improving transportation infrastructure is vital for economic and social development, offering better connectivity and easier access to services and opportunities.

The ratification of this loan agreement by the Parliament of Burkina Faso represents a significant milestone in the country’s urban development efforts.

The PMUDVS is a promising initiative designed to transform Bobo-Dioulasso, Ouahigouya, and Kaya into modern urban centers with efficient and sustainable transportation systems.

The World Bank’s support and the Burkinabe government’s commitment are key to the success of this project, which is poised to positively impact residents’ lives and the nation’s economy.
