Africa: Acceleration of Energy transition in Tunisia, clear commitments and visionary deadlines

During the meeting of the Higher Committee for Private Electricity Production, the Tunisian Prime Minister emphasized the urgent importance of finalizing administrative procedures for ongoing electricity production projects.

This drive aims to boost the country’s energy transition. Under the leadership of H.E. Ahmed Hachani, the Tunisian government is firmly committed to a more sustainable energy future. In this momentum, Tunisia aims to increase its electricity production capacity.

The Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy plans to soon conclude agreements for projects totaling 300 megawatts in the governorates of Gafsa and Tataouine starting from early May, thereby contributing to the advancement of the project allocation program totaling 500 megawatts.

As part of its national strategy for ecological and energy transition, the Prime Minister recommends preparing a decree project that will make it mandatory to promote and generalize the use of renewable energies for all installations, companies, and public structures.

Tunisia also sets clear deadlines: the deadline for submitting bids for other projects, with a capacity of 500 megawatts of solar energy in several regions of the country, is set for May 30, 2024. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s determination to achieve an effective energy transition.
