Burkina Faso / National Development Policy: the fight against terrorism remains the priority
On April 12, 2024, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, the National Technical Committee for National Development Policy (NTC/NDP) convened its regular session under the leadership of the Minister of Economy and Perspective.
During this session, Mr. Vieux Rachid Soulama, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Economy, emphasized the assessment of the 2023 annual performance report regarding the implementation of the national development policy.
The focus was on evaluating the progress made in executing the annual action plan for stabilization and development.
The session also aimed to identify major challenges faced, outline perspectives for the 2024-2026 period, and formulate recommendations to address obstacles and achieve more impactful outcomes.
These recommendations will be presented to the national steering committee for consideration.
The National Development Policy encompasses an action plan geared towards stabilization and development, with key areas including combating terrorism, restoring territorial integrity, addressing humanitarian crises, and enhancing governance.
Despite challenges encountered during implementation, substantial strides have been made.
The overall physical execution of the four pillars stands at 73.39%, with a financial realization of 59.21%, as reported by stakeholders.
Notable achievements include progress in combating terrorism and restoring territorial integrity, such as intensified efforts against crime and significant reduction in armed attacks. Reported cases of armed attacks decreased from 832 in 2022 to 655 in 2023.
Regarding efforts to promote decent employment and social protection for all, particularly youth and women, achievements by December 31, 2023, encompass various initiatives.
These include enhanced protection for vulnerable children, with 8,857 children (including 5,187 girls) receiving support due to violence.
Additionally, six decrees were enacted to implement the universal health insurance law.
Looking forward to the 2024-2026 period in Burkina Faso, the primary focus will continue to be on combating terrorism and reclaiming territorial control.
