AES / Strengthening Parliamentary Cooperation Within the Alliance : A Concrete Step with the Visit of Malian Deputies to Burkina Faso
As part of the implementation of the Sahel States Alliance (AES), a historic initiative launched in September 2023 by the highest authorities of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, Malian deputies conducted a working visit to Burkina Faso. The objective of this visit was to strengthen parliamentary ties between the two countries, which share similar socio-economic realities and face common challenges.
The delegation, led by the President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly of Burkina Faso, Dr. Ousmane BOUGOUMA, was received in audience by President Ibrahim TRAORE. Dr. BOUGOUMA emphasized that the discussions focused on bringing the two parliaments closer, aligning with the dynamics of the Sahel States Alliance.
During the audience, Malian and Burkinabé parliamentarians presented some recommendations to Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, resulting from their joint efforts. Madame Diarra Raky TALLA, Head of the Malian delegation, highlighted a major recommendation : « The strong recommendation was for the Heads of States of Mali and Burkina Faso to accelerate and assist the sister Republic of Niger in establishing its legislative bodies and to familiarize themselves with the experiences, pool knowledge, and share the mechanisms already in place in the two countries ».
Deputies from Burkina Faso and the Republic of Mali reaffirmed their strong commitment to making parliamentary diplomacy more active and continuing the exchange of mutualized texts within the member countries of the Sahel States Alliance. This approach aims to strengthen regional cooperation, harmonize legislations, and promote the well-being of populations in the Sahel region.
This meeting between the parliamentarians of the two nations demonstrates the concrete commitment of the member states of the Sahel States Alliance AES to work together to overcome common challenges and build a more stable and prosperous future for the region. Parliamentary cooperation thus emerges as a crucial lever for achieving the ambitious goals of the Alliance.
