TOGO : For the Head of State Faure Gnassingbé : « if Cinkassé is not at peace, Togo is not at peace »

The Head of State, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, visited Cinkassé and Mandouri on Sunday to assess the security situation in this northern region of the country. Upon arrival, the President exchanged views with the local authorities and leaders of Cinkassé and Grand Kpendjal.

Cinkassé and Mandouri, the two prefectures in the Savanes region, have been facing terrorist incursions from neighboring Burkina Faso. The President’s visit aimed to address the security challenges in these areas.

Faure Gnassingbé expressed determination to enhance the security and resilience of the population against terrorism. The populations of Kpendjal and Kpendjal-Ouest prefectures also bear heavy losses in attacks by armed terrorist groups. On January 21, Faure Gnassingbé expressed his deep compassion for the populations affected by the attacks in the region.

During his visit, the President reassured the populations, promising them full protection, especially in the three prefectures where most attacks occur. « If Mandouri is not at peace, Togo is not at peace ; if Cinkassé is not at peace, Togo is not at peace. We will do everything to protect you ». declared Faure Gnassingbé.

Furthermore, the Head of State praised the bravery and professionalism of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) deployed in the region as part of Operation Koundjouaré. They have succeeded in containing the threat in this area.

However, Faure Gnassingbé emphasized that the fight against terrorism and violent extremism is not solely the responsibility of the FDS. For a more effective fight, he urged the populations to increase vigilance and strengthen ties around security strategies. « Do not rest on your laurels. Continue to be vigilant ; continue to support the Defense and Security Forces as well as the administrative and political authorities because it is together that we will preserve peace and security in the Savanes ». he advised. It is worth noting that Faure Gnassingbé’s visit to the region provided an opportunity for the local communities to extend their wishes for health, happiness, and peace.
