Niger/Cooperation : Transition authorities seek partnerships based on trust and mutual respect
The authorities of the transition in Niger have committed to a policy of diversifying partnerships with other countries. These partnerships are built on trust and respect for the sovereignty and interests of each partner country.
In this context, the head of the transitional government, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, accompanied by some members of the government, embarked on a tour of Europe and Asia starting on January 15. Since Monday, being in Moscow, the Nigerien Prime Minister and his delegation have had fruitful discussions with senior Russian officials.
The discussions focused on bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Niger and the Russian Federation. The authorities of both countries aim to strengthen cooperation in the areas of security, trade, economy, investments, mining, energy, and various other sectors of common interest.
For the Prime Minister of Niger, it is crucial for the country’s authorities to establish deep and strategic relations with Russia. The unfavorable experience with the former colonial power, France, has prompted the country to reconsider the criteria for cooperation and bilateral agreements with powerful nations.
According to the Prime Minister, Niger is committed to the path of real independence and total sovereignty. The Nigeriens aspire to make free choices regarding all their partners, fostering sincere, honest, and mutually beneficial relationships, while respecting the sovereignty and interests of each partner.
According to government sources, the Nigerien Prime Minister and his delegation will also visit Iran, Serbia, and Turkey.
