DRC: Félix Tshisekedi Sworn in on January 20

The constitutional court on Tuesday proclaimed Felix Tshisekedi, winner of the presidential elections on December 20.

With a combined vote of 13.058.962, the presidential candidate won 73.47% of the vote, giving him the opportunity to serve a second term as head of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

His inauguration is scheduled for January 20, according to the schedule of the National Independent Electoral Commission.

A petition by candidate Theodore Ngoy demanding the cancellation of the polls and their reorganization by a new electoral commission was simply rejected by the Constitutional Court. Ngoy came out last in the election. According to the court, his motion is admissible but unfounded.

Several observers welcomed the peaceful conduct of elections, and Felix Tshisekedi continues to receive congratulations from several counterparts.

About fifteen Heads of State congratulated the re-elected President as soon as the Cen had proclaimed the provisional results.

The CENI registered 26 candidates for the presidential election of December 2023. In 2006, there were 33 candidates.
