The Lagos Dog Carnival: A cultural celebration of Canine Diversity and responsible pet care

The Lagos Dog Carnival, held annually in December, has become a must-attend event for animal lovers in Nigeria. In its fifth edition, the event featured various dog breeds, providing owners with an opportunity to share moments of play, dance, and parades with their faithful companions. This year’s theme, “Wazobia,” celebrated Nigeria’s cultural diversity, with dogs parading in traditional attire.

Initiated by Jackie Idimogu, the Lagos Dog Carnival goes beyond mere festivity by offering educational demonstrations on pet care and training.

Tips on veterinary care and adoption were also shared. George Nnaoba, an architect and dog owner, praised the educational aspect of the event, emphasizing its crucial role in learning best practices for pet care.

Various breeds, including border collies, pugs, and Lhasa Apsos, participated in the festival, showcasing canine diversity.

Beyond the festivities, dog well-being remains a central concern, highlighting the evolving attitudes toward pets in Nigeria.

The carnival aims to promote responsible adoption and raise awareness of thoughtful practices towards our four-legged friends.
