DRC: President Felix Tshisekedi inaugurates the 2023-2024 judicial year at the Court of Cassation

Monday, October 16 marked an exceptional moment for the judicial profession in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the judicial reopening at the Court of Cassation.

The solemn and public audience, held in the Congress Hall of the People’s Palace, was in accordance with Organic Law No. 13/011-B of 11 April 2013 regulating the organization, functioning and jurisdiction of the courts. of the judicial order. The Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi, as Supreme Magistrate, honored with his presence at this ceremony, thus marking the end of the holidays of the Court of Cassation.

The ceremony, opened by the First President of the Court of Cassation, was punctuated by three important speeches. In the first place, the national president, Me Michel Shebele Makoba, pleaded in favor of the improvement of living conditions and the remuneration of magistrates, including those active, retired, and new admitted.

The Attorney General at the Court of Cassation, Firmin Mvonde, in his mercurial, has highlighted the trafficking of influence in its various forms, calling for the repression of this practice and the related crimes of justice. The last speaker, the First President of the Court of Cassation, Ndomba Kabeya Élie-Léon, expressed his gratitude to President Felix Tshisekedi for the confidence placed in justice, remarkable that its presence symbolizes a commitment to open a new page for Congolese justice.

The 2023-2024 judicial year means a return to normal activities in the jurisdictions, with a focus on ordinary proceedings. The Court of Cassation, as the highest of the judicial order, plays a crucial role in the cassation of extraordinary appeals against courts and judgments rendered in last resort by the courts of the order.
