Togo: Professor Dodzi Komla Kokoroko tells teachers about the dissemination of degrading videos

The publication of video content involving students is no longer tolerated in Togo. In a circular note, Prof Dodzi Komla Kokoroko, Minister of Primary, Secondary and Technical Education, reminded Monday, October 09, 2023, the authors and accomplices of these recordings that they expose themselves to the rigor of the law.

On the eve of the 2023-2024 school year, Minister Dodzi Kokoroko called on teachers to show kindness and promote the values of respect, tolerance and empathy in classrooms.

«However, since the beginning of the school year, it has been noted that social media platforms have been broadcasting, videos showing learners who have difficulty articulating and pronunciation while declassifying school poems» said Minister Dodzi Kokoroko.

«These recordings made for the sole purpose of exposing these students to public ridicule are scandalous and antinomic of the values that found the school of the Republic», he added.

Consequently, the Minister of Primary, Secondary and Technical Education places every actor in the education system under his responsibility.

«To the teachers in the classrooms, I refer you to the code of conduct of persons of schools and technical and vocational training centres whose article 4 assigns the duty to respect the dignity and the physical and moral integrity of the learner, to respect and enforce the rights of children contained in the national and international legal instruments ratified by our country» he said

In this regard, any author and accomplice of these recordings are exposed to the rigor of the texts in force. Prof Dodzi Komla also says he counts on the will of all the actors to privilege in their mission of education, the best interests of the learner and the child.
