Burkina Faso: Older people called to do more to restore peace and social cohesion
On Tuesday 03 October 2023, the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traore, invited the elderly of Burkina Faso to become more involved in restoring peace, social cohesion and living together, which is the key to a stable and secure society.
This was at a meeting with the National Council of the Elderly, as part of the World Day of Older Persons, celebrated every 1 October. The discussions focused mainly on the contribution of the elderly to finding solutions to the socio-political and security challenges facing the country.
Older people have a lot to give in terms of the cardinal values on which African societies are founded. The Head of State therefore urged them to instil in Burkina Faso’s youth the values of dignity, integrity, probity, forgiveness and dialogue. These are values which, according to the President of the Transition, will make it possible to combat socio-economic crimes effectively.
The expectations and concerns of the elderly were also addressed at the meeting. Captain Ibrahim Traore promised to take measures to improve the living and working conditions of the elderly in Burkina Faso. He is even considering setting up a fund to support this social stratum.
They intend to use their experience and wisdom to help restore peace and social cohesion in their beloved homeland. The delegation of representatives of the elderly expressed their gratitude to Captain Ibrahim TRAORE for his vision and his efforts to promote peace.
