Guinea/Niger: President Mamadi Doumbouya received a delegation from CNSP

The President of the Guinean Republic, His Excellency Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, received a delegation from the National Council for the Safeguard of the Nation (CNSP) of Niger over the weekend. The delegation was led by Brigadier General Moussa Salaou Barmou. The purpose of this mission, similar to the one conducted last week in Bamako and Ouagadougou, is to express gratitude for the support and solidarity shown by the Guinean authorities to Niger, particularly to the CNSP, following the events of July 26, 2023.

The National Committee for Development and Democracy (CNRD), led by President Mamadi Doumbouya, was the first to firmly express support for the new military authorities in Niger and to disassociate from the sanctions imposed by ECOWAS on the country.

The delegation from the National Council for the Safeguard of the Nation (CNSP) of Niger conveyed a message from their President, General Abdourahamane Tchiani.

The audience took place in the presence of the Prime Minister and head of government, the Minister Secretary General and Presidential Spokesperson, the Minister and Director of the Presidential Cabinet, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy, and Finance, as well as high-ranking military officials.

During the audience, General Barmou, the delegation’s leader, conveyed greetings from President General Abdourahamane Tchiani to his counterpart and brother Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, as per a statement from the Guinean Presidency.

He also expressed the President’s gratitude for Guinea’s attention to Niger and the CNSP, as well as for the stance taken by Guinean authorities following the CNSP’s assumption of power.

According to General Salaou Barmou, the leader of the Nigerien delegation, this act further strengthens the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Guinean and Nigerien peoples.

«It is all about showing the CNSP’s gratitude for the solidarity and unwavering support through, first of all, the CNRD’s declaration of 31 July following the events with which you are familiar. This message effectively marked Guinea’s solidarity with Niger», General Salaou Barmou told the press at the end of the meeting with the Guinean leader.

As for the President of the Guinean transition, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, he emphasized: «Regarding the Republic of Guinea, we are Pan-Africanists. When our people face problems, we are always present; we will always be there, as was the case for our brothers in Burkina, Mali, and Niger. We believe that only we, can find solutions to our problems. Our position is clear – addressing the problems of our people is of great importance to us».
