Burkina Faso: Ibrahim Traoré calls for unity as lent and Muslim fast coincide

President Ibrahim Traoré addressed the Burkinabe population on Wednesday with a message of communion and reflection as the Christian Lent and Muslim fasting period begin almost simultaneously. These two periods of devotion start respectively on Wednesday, February 18, and Thursday, February 19, 2026.

The Head of State views this religious coincidence as an exceptional opportunity to strengthen national cohesion. “The nearly simultaneous beginning of these faith journeys is an opportunity to reinforce our shared destiny,” he emphasized, calling on Burkinabe of all faiths to experience this spiritual moment together.

This prayer period is also presented as an occasion to collectively uplift the nation through supplications.

President Traoré invites citizens to work together for the consolidation of peace in Faso; an appeal that resonates particularly amid the challenging security context the nation faces.

Beyond the spiritual dimension, the presidential message emphasizes concrete solidarity.

The Head of State encourages Burkinabe to show compassion toward vulnerable people, making this blessed time “a moment of sharing and kindness.”

“May God answer our prayers,” Captain Ibrahim Traoré concluded, thus expressing his faith in a better future for Burkina Faso, carried by the unity of its children around values of tolerance, mutual assistance, and fraternity.
