Burkina Faso: Media regulatory body warns of “Massive Disinformation Campaign” targeting State Authorities
In a national context already marked by numerous security challenges, Burkina Faso’s Superior Council of Communication (CSC) has sounded the alarm. In an official statement issued on February 13, 2026, the media regulatory body stated that it observes, with grave concern, the unfolding of a massive disinformation campaign on social networks aimed at the systematic disparagement of high state authorities.
According to the CSC, this digital offensive is characterized by the dissemination of malicious and tendentious publications.
These carefully crafted contents are based on completely fabricated facts and falsified statements taken out of context.
The objective of this disinformation campaign is to sow doubt and confusion within public opinion in order to undermine social cohesion, an essential pillar in the current period Burkina Faso is experiencing.
The institution, chaired by Louis Modeste Ouédraogo, is under no illusion and points to the origin of these maneuvers.
Behind these actions, rendered suspicious by their similarity and recurrence, are in all likelihood the enemies of the people, several of whom operate from abroad.
This is a coordinated destabilization attempt aimed at eroding citizens’ trust in their institutions and leaders.
Faced with this serious situation, the CSC wishes to firmly reiterate a fundamental principle: “the digital space is not a lawless zone.”
Under the pretext of a distorted notion of freedom of expression, social networks cannot become vectors of social destabilization.
The body announces that actions are already underway, in close collaboration with the relevant state services, to ensure rigorous monitoring of these contents and guarantee strict application of the law.
In this crucial period, the battle against disinformation is also a matter for citizens. The CSC counts on the patriotic commitment of all to promote a civic digital space, a space that is finally at the service of peace, social cohesion, and the development of Burkina Faso. The vigilance of each individual is the best response to those who seek to divide us.
