Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré drastically reduces the price of medicines

The President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, chaired this Thursday’s weekly Council of Ministers, during which major decisions were adopted to improve the living conditions of the Burkinabe people. In line with the principles of the Progressive Popular Revolution, the Executive has taken strong measures in the health sector.

Effective March 1, 2026, the prices of several essential generic medicines, health products, and medical consumables will see a significant reduction across the national territory.

The decreases reach historic levels: up to 53% for injectables, 67% for tablets, 72% for consumables, and 20% for syrups.

This decision represents a considerable budgetary effort by the State, which is absorbing 3 billion FCFA on behalf of the citizens.

This financial sacrifice, assumed by the authorities, tangibly reflects the Head of State’s vision of equitable and universal access to healthcare for all segments of the population.

This measure will provide relief to thousands of Burkinabe households facing the high cost of medical treatments.

It will particularly benefit people suffering from chronic illnesses requiring long-term care, as well as vulnerable populations in rural areas.

This initiative is part of a series of reforms aimed at building a healthcare system that is more accessible, fairer, and truly at the service of the people.
