Togo: Council President Faure Gnassingbé strengthens food sovereignty through agricultural development
President Faure Gnassingbé, President of the Council, continues to drive impactful actions to strengthen agricultural development and ensure the food sovereignty of Togo. Recently, he conducted a series of meetings in the Dankpen and Binah prefectures of the Kara region with farmers from the Planned Agricultural Development Zones (ZAAP).
These visits are part of an ongoing dialogue between the government and sector stakeholders, aimed at identifying concrete solutions to improve working conditions for producers and accelerate the professionalization of agricultural zones.
During his stop in Guérin-Kouka, the President visited the Agricultural Processing Center (CTA) and spoke with farmers about the challenges they face.
He emphasized the importance of an inclusive approach to improve production and promote food self-sufficiency. “The government alone does not have all the answers,” he stated, highlighting the shared goal of feeding the Togolese people and reducing dependence on imported products, which drain the country’s financial resources.
To support this momentum, President Faure Gnassingbé provided agricultural equipment, including tractors and tillers, enabling producers to modernize their tools.
This equipment directly contributes to improving the productivity and profitability of farms, in line with sustainable development objectives.
During his visit to Tchikawa in the Binah prefecture, the President commended the progress made by local farmers and encouraged them to maintain their efforts.
He reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the ZAAPs into true centers of competitiveness and excellence.
Through these efforts, Togo aims to become an agricultural leader in West Africa, capable of ensuring both food security and expanding into new export markets.
