Burkina Faso: 2026, a year of accelerated progress on major healthcare projects

Burkina Faso is resolutely committed to transforming its healthcare system. Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, this transformation goes beyond mere technical reform and is embedded within a strategic vision of national rebuilding. It aims to consolidate the state, bring public services closer to citizens, and strengthen social resilience in the face of security challenges. Healthcare has become both a political and symbolic lever for demonstrating governmental effectiveness.

The year 2025 marked a decisive step forward. The inauguration of the University Hospital Center (CHU) in Pala, the radiotherapy center in Bobo-Dioulasso, and the hemodialysis unit in Gaoua reflects the ambition to establish specialized infrastructure across all regions of the country.

At the local level, the creation of 20 Primary Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS) and the upgrade of 25 others to Municipal Medical Centers underscore the state’s commitment to making healthcare accessible to populations where they live.

The specialization of 2,000 healthcare professionals through the “1000×5” plan, along with the mass distribution of mosquito nets and expanded vaccination coverage, demonstrates a public health policy that is both preventive and curative, designed for the long term.

For 2026, the pace and demands intensify. The completion of the CHU in Gaoua, the launch of the CHU in Fada N’Gourma, and the expansion of hemodialysis centers in Dori, Dédougou, and Banfora aim to bring specialized care closer to populations, even in areas affected by insecurity.

The message from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health is clear: healthcare is an instrument of sovereignty and a marker of the state’s capacity to transform the lives of its citizens.

This strategy illustrates the alignment between political vision and operational implementation.

National development is not reduced to economic growth alone. It is measured by the quality of public services and the proximity of essential infrastructure to the people. Each CHU, each specialized center, and each CSPS becomes a building block in the foundation of a stronger, more resilient, and more united nation.

By accelerating its major hospital projects, Burkina Faso affirms its health sovereignty and its ability to build a future where national rebuilding is synonymous with dignity and security for all its citizens.
