Manchester City close in on defender Marc Guehi in January overhaul

Manchester City are set to strengthen their title challenge with the signing of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi for an initial £20 million. The deal, confirmed as in its final stages by Palace manager Oliver Glasner, follows City’s recent acquisition of forward Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth.

Facing a six-point gap to league leaders Arsenal and an injury crisis in defence, Pep Guardiola has moved decisively.

Guehi, 25, is viewed as a long-term target and arrives with proven Premier League experience, having impressed for both Palace and England.

His addition is expected to bring stability and leadership to City’s backline following injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.

Guehi’s impending arrival also places further doubt on John Stones’ future at the Etihad, with the England defender out of contract this summer.

The transfer represents a strategic winter move by City as they aim to close the gap at the top of the table.
