Ter Stegen nears loan move to Girona in search of playing time

An agreement is imminent for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to join neighboring club Girona on a short-term loan, according to reports from Cadena SER.

The deal, now in its final stages, would see the German international move until June after falling down the pecking order at Barça following the arrival of Joan García.

The 33-year-old has personally driven the move, prioritizing playing time to bolster his chances for national team selection ahead of the World Cup.

A key compromise has been found on wages, with Ter Stegen agreeing to forgo a significant portion of his salary to facilitate the transfer.

Girona is also contributing financially within its means, ensuring the move complies with league financial regulations.

The loan provides a vital opportunity for Ter Stegen to regain competitive rhythm in a familiar league, while Barcelona temporarily offloads a high salary.

For a ambitious Girona side, the acquisition of an experienced goalkeeper represents a major coup as they push forward in La Liga.
