AFCON trophy tour kicks off, highlighting Africa’s global football rise

The Africa Cup of Nations trophy has embarked on a global Diaspora Tour, starting in London, to build anticipation for the Morocco 2025 tournament. The tour will also visit Paris and Tokyo, showcasing the expanding global influence of African football and its diaspora.

The 35th edition of AFCON will be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, across modern venues in cities like Casablanca and Marrakech.

The London launch event blended football and culture, featuring musical performances and discussions with legends like former Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama.

Wanyama highlighted the intense competition, noting that “countries are rising from obscurity,” a testament to growing development and youth talent across the continent.

The tournament will feature global stars like Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, and Victor Osimhen.

More than a promotional campaign, the tour is a strategic statement. By engaging major diaspora hubs, it reinforces a shared identity and signals Africa’s rising cultural and economic power on the world stage, driven by sport.
