Dani Alves reemerges, embracing faith after legal ordeal
Following his acquittal in a high-profile sexual assault case, former Barcelona and Brazil star Dani Alves has publicly embraced a new life centered on religion. The 42-year-old was a guest at an evangelical church congress in Girona, Spain, where he was seen preaching, singing, and praying with fervor.
Alves, who spent 14 months in pre-trial detention before his conviction was overturned on appeal in March 2025, credited a divine intervention for his current path. “I made a pact with God,” he told attendees, explaining that a messenger had guided him to the church during the “worst moment” of his life.
The former footballer, who now describes himself as a “disciple of Jesus Christ” on social media, presented his freedom as a testament to his faith. “What God promises, God fulfills,” he emotionally stated, declaring his present situation a “miracle.”
This public appearance marks a stark contrast to his life as a global football icon and his subsequent legal battles.
Having been released after the court cited major inconsistencies in the evidence against him, Alves has begun an unexpected new chapter, far from the football pitches where he once made his name.
