At the initiative of Lomé, the French capital will host an International Conference in support of peace and prosperity in the Great Lakes region on October 30, 2025.

This major diplomatic event is being jointly organized by France and Togo, with Lomé through the President of the Council, His Excellency Faure Gnassingbé playing a central role as the African Union’s designated mediator in the crisis between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.

The objective of this meeting is to mobilize the international community to address the persistent humanitarian emergency in eastern DRC and to create the conditions for lasting dialogue between regional actors.

This initiative is part of the ongoing engagement of the President of the Council, Faure Gnassingbé, whose active and balanced diplomacy has established Togo as an essential actor for African stability.

Since its designation by the African Union, Togo has intensified its mediation efforts, conducting numerous consultations in Lomé, Kinshasa, Kigali, and other African and European capitals. These steps, marked by neutrality and pragmatism, aim to foster a climate of trust between the parties and pave the way for genuine and lasting peace in the Great Lakes region.
