Burkina Faso: National production, when Thomas Sankara’s dreams take shape under the Popular Progressive Revolution

Under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Faso, Burkina Faso is decisively advancing on the path to productive sovereignty, powerfully echoing Thomas Sankara’s emblematic call: “Let us produce what we consume, and consume what we produce.” In a global context marked by economic dependency and fragile supply chains, this ambition is central to the Progressive People’s Revolution (RPP), demonstrated by a massive investment of over 244 billion CFA francs in national production between 2022 and 2024.
Driven by President Traoré, several key strategies have been deployed to revitalize the local economy and champion national ingenuity.
A primary focus is agriculture, the pillar of food self-sufficiency, supported through farm mechanization, subsidized inputs, and the rehabilitation of irrigated land.
The goal is to ensure food security, cut imports, and build a competitive agricultural value chain.
The government is also betting on the local processing of natural resources. Fiscal and technical incentives are encouraging young entrepreneurs and cooperatives to venture into agribusiness, textiles, and the utilization of forest products.
The RPP further promotes the creation of regional industrial hubs to bring production closer to consumption while stimulating job creation.
Backing local artisans and innovators is another strong lever. The government promotes “Made in Burkina” through national trade fairs, quality labels, and prioritizing local products in public procurement.
This reflects a political will to anchor national consumption in a patriotic and sustainable economic logic.
Finally, mobilizing youth is central to this dynamic. Incubation programs, technical training, and participatory funding are being implemented to channel the creative energy of young people toward production and entrepreneurship.
By concretizing the dream of Thomas Sankara, Ibrahim Traoré is placing Burkina Faso on the path to genuine economic independence.
The RPP is more than a slogan; it embodies a societal project built on dignity, production, and national solidarity.
