AES: In New York, the Prime Ministers together carry the voice of a Sahel in reconstruction and quest for dignity

Thousands of kilometers from their ancestral lands, the Prime Ministers of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger demonstrated that the spirit of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) knows neither borders nor exile. Gathered in New York on September 24, 2025, ahead of the 80th UN General Assembly, they gave form to an ideal that has become a reality: that of a sovereign, upright, and united Africa.
Far from a mere protocol exchange, their meeting was an act of significant political import, a striking demonstration of the diplomatic and strategic maturity of the AES nations.
In a changing world where power dynamics are being redrawn, the AES is asserting a clear position; that of a Sahel reclaiming its own destiny.
The harmonization of their positions before the UN podium is not just an act of coordination; it is a foundational step for a common diplomacy, one that carries a strong, unapologetic voice, resolutely focused on the interests of its people.
By rejecting the logic of systematic alignment and external dictates, the leaders of the AES are placing Africa at the center of its own narrative.
This international consultation, which extends the synergy already established on the ground in the areas of security, economy, and governance, illustrates the shared will to build a solid political architecture, rooted in Sahelian realities.
For sovereignty cannot be decreed; it must be built through speech, action, and unity.
It is this bold approach that is restoring a voice to the Sahel states, not the voice of a periphery awaiting rescue, but that of responsible actors, bearers of African solutions to African challenges.
By projecting themselves onto the UN stage with a concerted vision, the Prime Ministers of the AES show that the re-founding of the Sahel is underway. A re-foundation anchored in dignity, supported by solidarity, and driven by the will of the people.
The message is clear: the Sahel will no longer bend. It is rising, building, and inspiring. And through the AES, it proves that Africa can be the master of its own future, here and everywhere.
