Mali: President Assimi GOÏTA reaffirms Malian sovereignty at the heart of celebrations

In September 2025, Mali wrote a new chapter in its history by celebrating the 65th anniversary of its independence. More than a simple commemoration, this day was a moment of national unity, where the spirit of sovereignty and dignity was revived. General Assimi GOÏTA, President of the Transition and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, gave this celebration a special dimension by placing the unity of the people and the strength of republican institutions at its center.

After several years of modesty in official ceremonies, the Transitional authorities chose to restore full splendor to this historic date. Wreath-laying, tributes to heroes, and a military parade marked a day filled with emotion and pride. This return to a grand celebration reminded everyone that independence remains the foundation of Mali’s sovereignty and resilience.

The parade, impressive in its organization and diversity, highlighted the rising strength of the armed and security forces. Motorized and aerial demonstrations showcased their modernization and reinforced citizens’ confidence in Mali’s ability to defend its territory and future.

In his speech, President Assimi GOÏTA paid tribute to the founding fathers of independence and to the soldiers who defend the nation daily. He emphasized the importance of the Alliance of Sahel States as a lever of collective sovereignty and called on the Malian people to remain united and resilient. For him, only cohesion will allow the continued fight for a free, dignified, and fully sovereign Mali.
