AES forges path to sovereignty through collective security

Over the past two years, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), led by Presidents Assimi Goïta of Mali, Abdourahamane Tiani of Niger, and Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso, has made security the cornerstone of its mission. The confederation’s top priority combating terrorism and defending territorial integrity is now being pursued through a sovereign, coordinated approach, free from imperialist influence.

A major milestone was reached in January 2025 with the announcement of a joint 5,000-strong force.

This regional army, capable of operating across national borders, reflects a shared political will and commitment to confronting transnational threats. It symbolizes the determination of the AES  to take full control of its security destiny.

By pooling military resources, coordination among armed forces has significantly improved. Joint offensives have pushed back insurgents, secured once-vulnerable areas, and restored public confidence.

This operational solidarity marks a clear break from past fragmentation and has strengthened regional cohesion.

Finally, support from reliable strategic partners such as Russia, Turkey, Iran, and others has helped modernize defense capabilities.

By embracing these mutually beneficial partnerships, the AES has demonstrated its ability to build lasting security in service of its sovereignty and regional stability.
