Burkina Faso: More than 2000 alerts received within one month after the creation of the national call center

On Thursday morning, Djourmité Nestor NOUFE, Director of Communication and Public Relations at the Presidency of Burkina Faso, held a press conference on the National Call Center (CNA) after one month of operation.

In front of journalists, the Director of Communication stated that the center received and processed a total of 2256 calls and messages, averaging 81 calls and messages per day.

«Out of the 2256 calls received, 1420 were deemed to be of no interest and 832 were declared actionable», explained the Director of Communication, who further stated that 88.94% of the actionable alerts were related to terrorism and organized crime, while 11.06% were related to reporting incidents of mismanagement and embezzlement of public resources.

According to Mr. NOUFE, regarding terrorism, the incidents reported were related to «terrorist attacks, forced displacement of populations, cases of kidnappings, thefts of animals, looting of property, checkpoints of Terrorist Armed Groups (TAG), reporting of terrorist bases, movements and gatherings of TAGs, as well as reporting of suspects».

It was also revealed that some fighters from TAGs contacted the CNA for information on « mechanisms for their absolution and social reintegration. Some of them are even being taken care of while waiting for the implementation of the procedure in this regard», said Djourmité Nestor NOUFE.

Regarding mismanagement, malfunctions in public administration, and embezzlement of public resources, alerts were reported in 6 regions of the country, with immediate responses provided for alerts that were « sufficiently precise depending on the opportunity and modalities of the reaction in relation to the immediately available means. »
