Seville Marathon 2025: A Celebration of speed and international flair

The 40th edition of the Seville Marathon, held on February 23, 2025, solidified its reputation as a premier event for runners worldwide. With 14,000 participants, including 7,250 international athletes from over 100 countries, the race showcased its global appeal. The flat, fast course at sea level continues to attract elite runners and amateurs aiming for personal bests.
Ethiopian Selemon Barega, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic 10,000-meter champion, made a stunning marathon debut, clinching victory with an unofficial time of 2:05:15.
Despite leading solo from the 30th kilometer, Barega fell short of breaking the course record. Ethiopian Adisu Tesfahun Tafere and Moroccan Mohamed Reda El Aaraby secured second and third places, both achieving personal bests.
In the women’s race, Ethiopian Anchinalu Dessie Genaneh triumphed with 2:22:17, while France’s Manon Trapp set a national record (2:23:38) for second place.
Kenyan Cyntia Chepchirchir Kosgei rounded out the podium. Spain’s Kaoutar Boulaid narrowly missed the World Championships qualifying standard, finishing fourth.
The wheelchair category saw Joaquín García and Carmen Gimenez claim victories in their respective divisions.
With record participation and a sold-out event six months in advance, the Seville Marathon continues to grow, blending elite competition with a festive atmosphere. Sponsored by Zurich Seguros and supported by the Seville City Council, the event remains a highlight on the global running cale
