Tunisia/ Former Tunisian Football chief sentenced to four years for corruption

Wadie Jary, the ex-president of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), was sentenced to four years in prison on Thursday in Tunis following a corruption conviction. The case stemmed from a judicial complaint filed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which alleged irregularities in a contract between the FTF and a technical director.

Jary, who had faced multiple accusations in recent years, including match-fixing, financial misconduct, and money laundering, consistently denied the allegations.

However, the court found him guilty, marking a significant moment in Tunisia’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption in sports.

The verdict has sent shockwaves through the Tunisian football community, highlighting the challenges of governance and transparency within the sport.

Authorities hope the ruling will serve as a deterrent, reinforcing accountability and integrity in football administration.

Jary’s sentencing underscores the broader push to address corruption in African football, where similar cases have emerged in recent years.

As Tunisia continues its crackdown on malpractice, the case against Jary stands as a pivotal step in restoring public trust in the nation’s sporting institutions.
