Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré’s call for industrialisation policy to be put into practice is reported to have met with a favourable response

The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, wants to make the industrial sector an essential pillar of economic development and employment. In September 2024, during a meeting with Burkinabe and Chinese businessmen, the Head of State expressed his desire to see the industrial sector develop, calling on them to invest in it to help achieve the country’s goals of local processing of raw materials and food self-sufficiency.
He stated that “a country’s development depends first and foremost on the consolidation of its industrial fabric”.
For this reason, numerous initiatives have been taken to strengthen the production and processing capacities of national companies.
Initiatives such as the creation of processing plants for local products and support for the private sector to ensure effective industrialisation in Burkina Faso.
As part of this drive, it should be noted that the government has supported the initiative to set up a flour mill at Gampéla in the municipality of Saaba, in the Centre region.
It was inaugurated by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, and it was an opportunity for him to reiterate his appeal to Burkinabe businessmen and those from partner countries to invest in this field.
This will enable the country to ensure its food security, create jobs and, above all, do without imports, which are costly for the country.
According to official information, the new flour mill, which specialises in the production of wheat flour, will create almost 300 direct jobs and more than 10,000 seasonal jobs, with a daily production of 220 tonnes of flour and 80 tonnes of bran.
The support of businessmen for the vision of President Ibrahim TRAORE will make it possible to carry out major industrial projects to effectively meet the aspirations of all the people of Burkina Faso.
