Niger launches new national Airline to boost connectivity and development

The Nigerien government announced on Thursday the establishment of a new national airline, named “Niger Air International,” aimed at improving both domestic and international connectivity and supporting the country’s socio-economic development.

According to a statement released after a Cabinet meeting, the state and other public entities will hold the majority stake in the new carrier, though the possibility of future private sector participation remains open.

Until now, domestic air travel has been primarily handled by Niger Airlines, founded in 2012, which connected major cities within the country.

Internationally, Niamey, the capital, is currently served by carriers such as Ethiopian Airlines, Air Côte d’Ivoire, Royal Air Maroc, and Air Algérie.
