Niger: Strategic victory for the Nigerien Armed Forces as terrorist leader Ibrahim Mahamadou is neutralised in Diffa

The Nigerien Army has just scored a major victory in the fight against terrorism by neutralising the notorious Boko Haram jihadist Bakoura, whose real name is Ibrahim Mahamadou.
This terrorist leader was involved in the kidnapping of more than 300 students in Kuriga, Nigeria, in March 2024, as well as a series of suicide bombings targeting markets, mosques, civilian gatherings, and deadly attacks against the armed forces of Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.
This decisive operation, carried out in the Diffa region in south-eastern Niger, demonstrates the tactical and operational superiority of the Nigerien Armed Forces (FAN).
Thanks to effective coordination between ground and air units, the FAN succeeded in eliminating a long-standing threat to regional stability.
This success reinforces the credibility of the Nigerien army in its fight against terrorist groups and illustrates the rise in its strategic capabilities.
This advance has been hailed as a turning point in the sustainable security of the Sahel.
