Burkina Faso: The Ministry of Safety reminds people that helmets have been compulsory since 1 January 2025

The Ministry of Security in Burkina Faso reminds the public that wearing a helmet has been mandatory since January 1, 2025. This regulation aims to significantly reduce the high mortality rate caused by motorcycle accidents, a critical road safety issue in the country.

Each year, countless lives are lost, often due to the lack of proper protective gear. Wearing a helmet is a simple yet effective choice to safeguard oneself and loved ones.

The ministry emphasizes the message: « Wearing a helmet saves lives and ensures a longer, safer life. » Beyond the vital safety aspect, complying with this rule also helps avoid fines, as riding without a helmet will now result in penalties.

Authorities urge everyone to take collective responsibility—by respecting this regulation, individuals contribute to lowering risks and fostering a safety-first mindset on the roads.

Let’s all wear our helmets and lead by example. This measure should not be seen as a burden but as an essential civic action to protect lives, including our own. By embracing this rule, we take a step toward a safer and more responsible Burkina Faso.
