Burkina Faso advances access to clean water and sanitation

Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is taking significant strides to ensure access to clean water and improved sanitation for its citizens. On January 13, 2025, the Minister of Environment, Water, and Sanitation, Roger Baro, inaugurated essential water infrastructure in Komki-Ipala.

These developments include a water tower, treatment facilities, public standpipes, and a multi-village network serving five communities.

The initiative brings the National Office for Water and Sanitation (ONEA) closer to rural populations, addressing the critical need for sustainable and equitable access to water.

Simultaneously, urban sanitation has become a government priority. In Ouagadougou, the introduction of mobile public latrines aims to tackle hygiene challenges in densely populated areas.

Pilot installations have also been launched in Bobo-Dioulasso and Koudougou, providing clean and dignified facilities.

This initial phase includes 24 cabins, reflecting the government’s commitment to expanding such services nationwide in a phased and inclusive manner.

These initiatives align with President Traoré’s vision of a Burkina Faso where access to water and sanitation is a fundamental right.

By investing in these critical sectors, the government is not only advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.

The ongoing projects highlight a commitment to sustainable development and a brighter future for all Burkinabe communities.
