Morocco revives CHAN 2024 hopes with 3-1 win over Zambia

Morocco kept their quarter-final dreams alive at the TotalEnergies CHAN 2024 with a commanding 3-1 victory over Zambia in Nairobi on Thursday.

The Atlas Lions, stunned by hosts Kenya in their opener, dominated early with Mohamed Hrimat breaking the deadlock in first-half stoppage time.

Zambia briefly threatened when Andrew Phiri pulled one back after a disallowed VAR goal, but Oussama Lamlaoui’s header and Sabir Bougrine’s late strike sealed Morocco’s crucial win.

Youssef Mehri was instrumental with two assists, while Zambia’s defensive frailties proved costly in their third straight loss, eliminating them from contention.

With Angola facing DR Congo later, Group A remains wide open. Morocco’s fate now hinges on their final group clash as they chase a third CHAN title.
