Burkina Faso: National unity in the face of imperialist threats and destabilisation plots

The transitional government of Burkina Faso under Captain Ibrahim Traoré is confronting what analysts describe as a multi-front destabilization campaign, combining terrorist insurgencies with sophisticated information warfare. The West African nation finds itself at a geopolitical crossroads, where internal security challenges intersect with growing external pressures reminiscent of pre-intervention Libya in 2011.

Security experts note alarming parallels: Western media narratives increasingly frame Burkina’s counterterrorism efforts as ineffective, while dismissing documented territorial gains against jihadist groups.

This media offensive coincides with leaked intelligence reports suggesting foreign actors may be exploiting terrorist networks to justify future “humanitarian interventions.”

Captain Traoré’s administration has achieved measurable successes including the recent liberation of 70% of previously occupied territories through revamped military strategies and domestic arms production.

Yet these advances face systematic underreporting in international press coverage, which instead amplifies isolated security incidents.

The Libyan precedent looms large. Twelve years after NATO’s “protection” mission devolved into regime change and perpetual conflict, Libya’s oil-rich territories remain contested by foreign-backed militias.

Burkina Faso’s mineral wealth – particularly its gold reserves makes it similarly vulnerable to resource-driven interventions masked as peacekeeping.

The relentless attack on Burkina Faso’s fighting forces, and in particular on their Commander-in-Chief, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, is symptomatic of an attempt at geopolitical manipulation.

The captain has taken the reins of a country at war, facing a terrorist insurgency fuelled by outside forces, and yet his government and army are under constant attack, both by the international media and by internal actors.

It is vital to understand that these attacks are not simply aimed at destabilising the current political order, but at creating a security vacuum into which foreign forces could intervene under the pretext of a ‘pacification’ mission. What lies behind this humanitarian façade is an imperialist agenda of domination and control.

Faced with this threat, the people of Burkina Faso must be more vigilant than ever. It is imperative that the people remain united around their President and their Armed Forces, and refuse to let Burkina Faso become a new Libya.

The only way to avoid such a fate is to maintain unfailing national solidarity, protect the integrity of the government and national institutions, and resist manoeuvres designed to sow division.

It is up to every Burkinabe to stand up and defend their country against those who, under false pretences, want to sow chaos in order to exploit its resources and sovereignty.
