Football/ Premier League: Manchester City lost the derby against Manchester United

Manchester City’s Premier League struggles deepened on Sunday after a shocking 2-1 defeat to rivals Manchester United in the highly anticipated derby at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite dominating possession and taking the lead through Josko Gvardiol’s header in the 36th minute, Pep Guardiola’s side faltered in the closing stages, allowing United to stage a dramatic late comeback.

City’s first-half performance saw them control the tempo but fail to create clear-cut chances apart from Gvardiol’s opener.

Kevin De Bruyne, starting alongside Phil Foden for the first time this season, was instrumental in orchestrating their attack, but City lacked the clinical edge needed to seal the game.

United, under Rúben Amorim, regrouped in the second half and gradually gained momentum.

Amad Diallo’s persistence paid off when he won a penalty after being fouled by Matheus Nuñes in the 85th minute. Bruno Fernandes coolly converted, leveling the score.

Just minutes later, Diallo stunned the Etihad with a breathtaking individual effort, lobbing Ederson before slotting home the winner in the 90th minute.

The defeat leaves City languishing in fifth place, four points adrift of the top four, while United’s late heroics saw them climb to 12th in the table. For Guardiola, the loss raises serious concerns about his team’s form as their title ambitions hang in the balance.

Meanwhile, Amorim’s United showed resilience and character, reminding City that derbies are never predictable.
