Africa / AES: When the wave of sovereignty continues its moult
Following Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and more recently Chad, the movement for sovereignty among African nations is gaining momentum. Spearheaded by the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), this wave of self-determination is now inspiring other countries on the continent, including Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal, where calls are growing for the removal of French influence.
This shift represents a significant turning point in Africa’s relationship with its former colonial power. African populations, long sidelined in political and strategic decisions, are increasingly asserting their right to self-governance.
The widespread demand for the withdrawal of French troops highlights a rejection of relationships seen as paternalistic and often detrimental to the progress of African nations.
The celebrations from citizens in response to these developments underscore a deep yearning for freedom and dignity.
Each military withdrawal and symbolic break from colonial ties is perceived as a victory, fueling the vision of a united and independent Africa where strategic decisions are guided by the needs of its people rather than external interests.
As Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal emerge as potential next fronts in this historic movement, it becomes clear that the winds of change are sweeping across the continent.
This awakening offers African nations a unique opportunity to redefine their priorities, affirm their sovereignty, and take control of their destinies free from external interference.
