Burkina Faso/Agriculture: Government support for the dry season continues with determination

Following recent assistance provided to farmers in Loroum province, located in the northern region, Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Agriculture has extended its support to farming cooperatives in the Sahel region. These cooperatives have received free agricultural inputs and equipment as part of the government’s efforts to boost production during the 2024-2025 dry season campaign.

Critical support for dry season farming

Under this initiative, farmers received seeds tailored to dry season conditions, including potato, wheat, onion, and tomato seeds. Additionally, irrigation equipment was distributed to enhance productivity and ensure successful harvests.

These crops, well-suited for the dry season, are a cornerstone of the region’s agricultural activity, sustaining livelihoods and contributing to local economies.

To further support farmers, the government has subsidized these agricultural inputs, making them more affordable and accessible nationwide.

This policy aims to empower farmers to fully participate in the dry season campaign, which is crucial for mitigating the challenges posed by harsh climatic conditions.

A Commitment to food self-Sufficiency

The Burkinabe government is actively transforming the agricultural sector to position it as a key driver of food self-sufficiency. This latest initiative underscores their commitment to increasing agricultural yields and reducing dependence on imported food products that could be locally produced.

By harnessing the country’s agricultural potential, the authorities are advancing a broader vision of food sovereignty and national dignity.

This strategy reflects Burkina Faso’s determination to ensure sustainable food security while supporting farmers as essential contributors to the economy.

With these measures, the government aims to make agriculture a cornerstone of economic independence for the “Land of honest People.”
