Burkina Faso/Solenzo tragedy: President Ibrahim TRAORE both compassionate and firm
Following the tragic events in Solenzo on Monday, November 25, where the chief of the canton was lynched, the President of Burkina Faso mobilized a large government delegation, led by Minister of State Bassolma Bazié.
Through this delegation, the President conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the community of Solenzo and took a firm stance against those responsible for the tragedy.
Minister Bassolma Bazié, speaking on behalf of the President, stated, « The perpetrators of this crime will be identified, and accountability will be ensured. » According to him, those behind the violence were individuals who had infiltrated a « spontaneous » march to carry out the act.
Reports indicate that the lynching of the canton chief followed the earlier murder of another local leader in the Kossi province.
The Minister emphasized that « these two murders are no coincidence, » as both victims were members of a council of elders scheduled to meet on December 2 in Solenzo to address pressing land issues.
He also noted that misinformation spread by the country’s enemies, aimed at manipulating the public against the defense forces and the authorities, played a role in these tragic events.
During their visit, the government delegation took the opportunity to engage with the local community, urging them to stay vigilant and to focus on educating the youth about civic values.
The promotion of these values is seen as essential for fostering unity and social cohesion within Burkina Faso.
