Burkina Faso takes major step toward digital governance with SECOP launch

In a significant move to modernize public administration, Burkina Faso’s government officially launched the Electronic System for Issuing Public Procurement Documents (SECOP) on Monday. The digital platform, introduced by Economy and Finance Minister Dr. Aboubakar Nacanabo, represents a major advancement in the country’s efforts to streamline government services and improve transparency.

The new system, accessible through the portal secop.finances.bf, allows businesses and citizens to obtain essential administrative documents entirely online, eliminating the need for physical visits to government offices.

Key documents now available digitally include tax clearance certificates, social security attestations, judicial clearances, and labor compliance documents, among others.

Minister Nacanabo emphasized that SECOP directly addresses longstanding complaints about bureaucratic delays and administrative hurdles.

By interconnecting with various government databases, the system ensures documents are issued quickly, securely, and with full traceability.

The platform operates 24/7, significantly reducing processing times that previously took days or weeks.

The launch ceremony was attended by Digital Transition Minister Aminata Zerbo/Sabane and Infrastructure Minister Adama Luc Sorgho, highlighting the cross-governmental importance of this initiative.

Officials noted that SECOP will particularly benefit small and medium enterprises by creating a more level playing field for accessing public contracts.

This development forms part of Burkina Faso’s broader digital transformation strategy, aimed at improving governance efficiency while reducing opportunities for corruption. The government plans to expand the system’s capabilities in coming months to include additional services and documents.

For citizens and businesses, SECOP promises to dramatically simplify interactions with public administration while enhancing trust in government procurement processes.

The platform’s introduction reflects Burkina Faso’s commitment to leveraging technology for better governance and economic development.
